tlt is about a lot of things and has lots of major themes but i think the idea of love is the biggest of all. Theres so much love oozing out of the pages it makes me sick!!! There’s platonic love and familial love and romantic love and sexual love and love caught between those categories and love beyond categories and labels.
There’s the love of two girls who’ve never had anything or anyone but each other there’s the love of two cousins who understand each other better than anyone else there’s the love of codependent twin sisters who are two halves of one whole no matter how hard one wants to be separate there’s the love of a little boy and his barbie doll.
Do u see what i mean! There is clean love and there is dirty love. There is love that is healthy and prosperous and there is love that is so vile it belongs in a hazardous waste disposal site.
There is the hateful love of a man who sees his closest confidantes as nothing but toys and there is the unconditional love of the most unpredictable family who isn’t quite family but hey, who cars about labels anyway?
There is the love of a husband and wife and there is the love of two scared teens who were raised on a war-desperate planet who know they must die and are more than willing to.
A little girl who loves her 6-legged dog and the lustful desires between and immortal being and the leader of a rebellion force that would want nothing more than to see that being die a slow, painful death.
The love the author has for classical literature, so much so that the themes and the prose wriggle themselves into every page. The love for shitty internet memes that still fit in perfectly to the story.
There’s so much love im sick!!!!!! Its good love and its bad love and its love that could collapse the universe but at the end its still just love!
Thinkin about how Cytherea targeted the Fourth House, even taking the time to write “DEATH TO THE FOURTH HOUSE” after killing Jeannemary, and how NtN had a bizarre focus on the unique origin of Ulysses and Titania, and how Isaac’s name comes from the sacrificial Isaac (Bible) and Jeannemary is named for the martyr Jeanne d'Arc, and how the kids’ titles are the Baron and Knight of Tisis which has this etymology:
Last night I had a dream I woke up to find that my house had been turned into a Smart House with every wall being a digital screen including the roof so I could see it even laying on bed and the Siri voice said “Don’t worry. You are perfectly safe in your Apple Smart Home™️” knowing I have a BIG phobia of intruders especially at night and it continued with “Let’s explore the neighborhood from the comfort of your home” so it opened google maps and accidentally zoomed past a shitty jpeg of the girl from The Ring standing outside my house and it said “ignore that”. woke up laughing
